Sydney by night - again

I better post this, so nobody can say I've gone a full year without putting up anything. And to get back into it, I might as well pick up where I left off.

These nighttime shots were taken from Mrs Macquaries Chair (Sydney).

Sydney by night - part 2

And because it was so much fun, some more nighttime shots, this time of the Opera House and the Harbor Bridge.

Sydney by night - part 1

Some dusk and nighttime shots of Sydney, more specifically the city, taken from across the harbor

Parramatta Winterlight

Once again, Parramatta is putting on the Winterlight Festival. Due to extensive construction work currently in progress in Church Street Mall, the event has been moved to Price Albert Park, and therefore has to do without the impressive backdrop of the illuminated Town Hall building (check out photos from last year here).

Still, the light installation above the ice rink is quite impressive:

There's also a winter bar, a couple (well, three) food stalls, and a giant snow ball for the kids to climb inside. Apart from the ice rink, the event mainly features activities and workshops for kids.

Warm lights around the food stalls add to the cozy atmosphere

At the German hut, you can get some authentic bratwurst for a mere $ 8.

Australia Day 2014 fireworks display at Parramatta

Immediately after Jessica Mauboy finished her concert, the fireworks display marked the official end of the festivities with a bang or two.

International Fleet Review (2)

After a long wait, it was time for the main attraction; the light show and fireworks display. To tell the history of the Royal Australian Navy, impressive images and film clips were projected onto the Opera House and the pylons of the Harbor Bridge. While it certainly was a fantastic show, it didn't make for great photography (and my somewhat obscured vantage point didn't help either), so the following pics focus mainly on the actual fireworks display.

Parramatta Winterlight

Just a few photos from the Parramatta Winterlight festival, where you can enjoy a handful of food stalls, some pretty lights, and an ice rink.

NYE

A few photos from the New Year's Eve event on, well, Dec 31, 2012, in Parramatta:

Some band is trying their best to keep the masses entertained

But everyone is clearly just waiting for the fireworks display to begin, so here we go:

Nighttime time lapse

Another attempt at combining light streak photography and time lapse; this time with more frames, shot specifically for this purpose (unlike last week, when I originally set out to just get one decent light streak photo).

The slight wobble in the second video demonstrates a vital rule for time lapsing: Always turn off the camera's auto focus.

My thanks to Aldi for providing very convenient rooftop parking in such a great vantage point.
